Union Volleyball Falls to Tennessee Wesleyan in Straight Sets
ATHENS, Tenn. – Union Commonwealth University's women's volleyball team (7-15, 7-5 AAC) fell to Tennessee Wesleyan (17-8, 9-4 AAC) Saturday afternoon in Athens, Tenn., 3-0.
Earlier this season, Union swept Tennessee Wesleyan at Robsion Arena on Sept. 30. This time, the roles were reversed, with set scores of 24-26, 14-25 and 20-25 in favor of Tennessee Wesleyan.

Set 1: Tennessee Wesleyan 26, Union Commonwealth 24
Union scored first in the opening set, and both teams traded points early until it was 6-6. Tennessee Wesleyan pulled away following a 6-1 run to make it 12-7. UCU responded with a 13-7 run to retake the lead, holding it until 20-19. TWU went on a 4-1 run to move ahead 23-21. Union tied it at 24-24, but Tennessee Wesleyan ultimately took the set 26-24.
Set 2: Tennessee Wesleyan 25, Union Commonwealth 14
TWU opened the second set with a 4-0 run. Union cut the lead to three at 9-6, but Tennessee Wesleyan answered with a 7-3 stretch to force a UCU timeout at 18-11. TWU then closed out the set with another 7-3 run to win 25-14 and take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3: Tennessee Wesleyan 25, Union Commonwealth 20
UCU again scored first in the final set, and the teams traded points until 6-6. Union went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead before Tennessee Wesleyan rallied to tie it at 16-16. TWU finished strong with a 9-4 run to win the set 25-20 and complete the 3-0 sweep.
