Union Volleyball Drops Second Match of Weekend to CIU in Three Sets

COLUMBIA, S.C. The Union Commonwealth University women's volleyball team (3-13, 3-3 AAC) fell to Columbia International (10-5, 6-1 AAC) in straight sets Saturday afternoon at the Moore Fitness Center, 3-0.

The Bulldogs closed out their second and final match of the weekend with set losses of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-10.

Game Recap

Set 1: CIU 25, Union Commonwealth 18
CIU opened with a 2-0 lead before Union tied it at 2. The Rams responded with an 8-2 run to go up 10-4 and later stretched the advantage to 18-9. The Bulldogs could not close the gap, dropping the opener 25-18.
Top performers: Berkli Benefield and Rylee Stookey led Union with three kills each.

Set 2: CIU 25, Union Commonwealth 23
Union trailed early but tied the score at 12-12. The set remained close until 22-22, when CIU scored back-to-back points to reach set point. Union held off one attempt but ultimately fell 25-23.
Top performer: Emily Shumaker paced Union with five kills.

Set 3: CIU 25, Union Commonwealth 10
The Rams opened on an 8-1 run and later used a 12-3 surge to take a commanding 21-5 lead. Union claimed five of the final nine points but could not extend the match, falling 25-10.
Top performers: Jersey Glass and Shumaker each recorded an ace.
