Union Falls Short in Final Game of The Show Against IU Kokomo
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Union Commonwealth University's men's basketball team (2-7, 1-2 AAC) fell to IU Kokomo (5-2, 0-0 RSC) in its final game of The Show on Sunday night at the MeadowView Convention Center, 66-62.
Sophomore guard Jabari Covington led Union with 18 points on 8-of-19 shooting and added a team-high four steals. Junior forward Devin Dunn followed with 13 points, while senior forward Dallas Rufus added 10. Junior center Ali Sakho anchored the post with a team-high nine rebounds.
How It Happened
First Half: IU Kokomo 30, Union Commonwealth 23
IU Kokomo opened the game on a 9-2 run before Union answered to tie it at 12-12 with 8:55 left in the half. The Cougars responded with a 15-5 run to take a 27-17 lead with two minutes remaining. Union trailed by 10 in the final seconds, but a 3-pointer from Kaleb McLendon cut the deficit to seven at 30-23 heading into halftime.
Second Half: IU Kokomo 66, Union Commonwealth 62
Union chipped away at the lead early in the second half. After a pair of free throws from Rufus, the Bulldogs pulled within three at 44-41 with 10 minutes remaining. Both teams traded points the rest of the way, and Union cut the deficit to four multiple times, but could not complete the comeback, falling 66-62.
