Union Men’s Basketball Falls at Milligan
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Union Commonwealth University's men's basketball team (2-4, 1-2 AAC) fell to Milligan (3-3, 2-0 AAC) on Saturday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, 76-69.
Sophomore guard Jabari Covington led Union with 20 points, shooting 8-of-18 from the field and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Junior forward David Galentine added 14 points, while senior forward Dallas Rufus and redshirt junior forward Kaleb Hedgepeth each finished with 12. Hedgepeth posted the highest field-goal percentage on the team at 83.3%.
On the defensive end, junior center Ali Sakho grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and Covington recorded five steals.
How It Happened
First Half: Milligan 44, Union Commonwealth 38
Hedgepeth opened the scoring for Union with the first basket of the game, and the Bulldogs held the lead for most of the half. Milligan took its first lead at 36-34 with 2:26 left. Union tied the game at 38-38, but the Buffalos closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 44-38 advantage into the break.
Second Half: Milligan 76, Union Commonwealth 69
Union started the second half strong, using a 14-5 run to regain the lead at 52-49 after a layup from Rufus. Milligan responded, beginning a decisive 13-2 run with 10:12 remaining and extending the lead to 68-58 with 6:24 to play. The Buffalos maintained control the rest of the way to secure the 76-69 win.
