Bulldogs Drop Season Finale to Spartanburg Methodist as Noe Posts Double-Double
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (8-20, 7-13 AAC) fell to Spartanburg Methodist University (16-13, 9-11 AAC) on Wednesday night at Meadow View Resort, 46-64.
Freshman forward Kylie Noe recorded a double-double, leading the Bulldogs with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks, while also adding 2 steals and an assist.
Senior guard Isis Rodgers and freshman forward Aymanni Wynn each contributed 9 points; Wynn also grabbed 5 rebounds, added 2 steals, and a block, while Rodgers chipped in 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.
Rodgers and freshman guard Aniyah Carter led the team in assists with 3 apiece.
How It Happened
First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 8, Spartanburg Methodist 14
Union fought through a defensive-heavy first quarter, with Noe putting the Bulldogs on the board from the line to make it 1-2 midway through the period. As momentum built late, Noe and sophomore guards Emrey Glover and Ella Coffey kept Union within reach, trailing 6-12 at the 1:27 mark. A late Glover layup cut the deficit, but Spartanburg Methodist answered in the final seconds to take a 8-14 lead into the break.
Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 18, Spartanburg Methodist 31
Spartanburg Methodist widened the margin early before Glover connected from behind the arc to slow the run. Junior guard Rachel Smith added a three-pointer at the 5:13 mark, and Noe later converted inside to keep Union within reach. However, Spartanburg Methodist controlled the final stretch to send the Bulldogs into halftime trailing 31–18.
Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 31, Spartanburg Methodist 45
Union continued to fight in the third quarter, highlighted by three-pointers from Rodgers and Wynn to keep the Bulldogs close. Spartanburg Methodist responded with a strong mid-quarter surge and second-chance points to maintain control. A late Wynn triple provided a spark, but Union trailed 45-31 heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 46, Spartanburg Methodist 64
Union opened the fourth with a Noe layup, but Spartanburg Methodist used turnovers and second-chance points to extend the lead, pushing the margin to 50-33 midway through the quarter. Late baskets from Rodgers and Coffey, along with a Noe and-one and a Wynn three, sparked a brief push for the Bulldogs. Spartanburg Methodist controlled the final stretch to secure the 64-46 win, bringing Union's season to a close in the AAC Tournament opener.
