Bulldogs Cruise to Victory Over Brenau, 59-38

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (7-17, 6-11 AAC) defeated Brenau University (12-14, 7-11 AAC) on Monday afternoon at Robsion Arena,59-38.

Freshman forward Aymanni Wynn led Union with 21 points, connecting on 4 of 7 shots from beyond the arc while shooting 57 percent from the field.

Sophomore center Lindsey Pirkle anchored the Bulldogs on the glass with a team-high seven rebounds to go along with three blocks, two assists and a steal.

Senior guard Isis Rodgers added eight points and five rebounds while leading the team with six assists and four steals.

How It Happened

First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 9, Brenau 7

The game started slowly for the Bulldogs, with sophomore guard Ella Coffey putting Union on the board with a free throw. Brenau edged ahead, scoring seven points while holding Union to just one until Rodgers made two free throws with 4:05 remaining in the first quarter. That sparked a Bulldogs run, as back-to-back baskets from Rodgers, freshman guard Aniyah Carter, and Freshman forward Kylie Noe put Union ahead, sending the team into the break with a 9-7 lead.

Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 25, Brenau 20

The lead changed hands several times in the second quarter, with both teams trading baskets. A free throw by Coffey put Union ahead 19-18 with 2:22 remaining, sparking a 7-0 run capped by a Wynn three-pointer, free throw, and layup. Brenau was held scoreless in the final minutes as Union took a 25-20 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 41, Brenau 29

Coffey opened the quarter with a quick basket from under the rim. Brenau had brief scoring bursts, but Union steadily extended its lead, fueled by baskets from Wynn and Pirkle. A free throw by sophomore point guard Emrey Glover with 1:32 remaining gave the Bulldogs a 14-point advantage. Brenau headed to the line to score twice in the final minute, but Union held a 41-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 59 Brenau 38

Wynn rode her scoring wave early in the fourth, hitting a three-pointer to open the quarter. Union quickly built on that momentum, with baskets from Noe, Carter and freshman guard Akeeviah Betts extending the lead to 59-35 with 2:33 remaining. Strong defense forced multiple turnovers and limited Brenau's chances, while Pirkle added two free throws to push the advantage further. A late Brenau three was not enough, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 59-38 victory.
