Bulldogs Drop Road Game at Bryan
DAYTON, Tenn. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (6-16, 5-10 AAC) fell to Bryan College (19-5, 16-2 AAC) on Wednesday night at Summers Gymnasium, 58-88.
Freshman forward Kylie Noe and junior guard Rachel Smith led Union with 11 points each, while sophomore guard Ella Coffey added 10.
Senior guard Isis Rodgers paced the Bulldogs with six rebounds, and freshman guard Aniyah Carter led the team in assists with four.
How It Happened
First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 12, Bryan 19
The first few minutes featured back-and-forth scoring until Carter sparked a 10–0 run for Union at 8:37 with a three-pointer, followed by consecutive baskets from freshman forward Aymanni Wynn and a layup from Noe, giving the Bulldogs a 12–6 lead with 5:27 remaining. Bryan responded with a late 13–0 run to close the quarter, leaving Union trailing 12–19 heading into the second.
Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 19, Bryan 41
Union stayed within striking distance early in the quarter, as Coffey and Rodgers scored on layups and free throws to keep the Bulldogs close. Bryan pulled away midway, extending its lead to 14 points by the 5:12 mark. Sophomore point guard Emrey Glover's layup and free throw provided a brief spark, but the Lions continued to dominate, ending the quarter ahead 41–19.
Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 38, Bryan 63
Bryan maintained their lead as both teams traded baskets for much of the period. Union Commonwealth kept pace behind scoring from Coffey, Rodgers and Glover, but Bryan capitalized on Bulldog turnovers, finishing the quarter on a 10-2 run with two minutes remaining to take a 63-38 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 58, Bryan 88
Union continued to battle early, exchanging baskets with the Lions as Noe energized the Bulldogs' offense with several key scores. Smith chipped away at Bryans' lead, hitting consecutive three-pointers midway through the quarter, while junior guard Natalie Johnson added late outside scoring. The Lions held firm down the stretch, and Union fell 58-88.
