Bulldogs Drop Road Game at Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (1-8, 0-4 AAC) fell to Georgetown (11-0, 0-0 MSC) on Wednesday afternoon at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym, 90-51.
How It Happened
Sophomore center Lindsey Pirkle led the team with 14 points, adding six rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Freshman forward Aymanni Wynn contributed 10 points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, and led the Bulldogs in assists with three. Junior guard Rachel Smith added eight points.
First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 17, Georgetown 17
Both teams traded baskets through the early stretch with Union's rhythm eventually producing a 12–8 lead, capped by a sophomore guard Ella Coffey three with 3:42 remaining. Georgetown answered immediately with two quick makes from deep to take a 15–12 edge. The Bulldogs quickly recovered as Pirkle buried a three to bring it even, and after both sides traded a short run, freshman guard Aniyah Carter's jumper in the final seconds sent the game into the second quarter tied 17–17.
Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 32, Georgetown 34
Union fell behind early in the second quarter, as Georgetown capitalized on turnovers, pushing ahead 32–22 midway through the period. The Bulldogs fought back with a 10–0 run sparked by a pair of jumpers from Smith and a layup from Wynn. Carter hit from behind the arc to tie the game at 32. Both teams traded stops over the final minute, but Union stayed within striking distance, closing the quarter just a few points down at 34–32 as momentum shifted heading into the half.
Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 42, Georgetown 58
Union opened the third quarter with a quick jumper from Pirkle to tie the game at 34. Georgetown responded with a strong run, aggressively building a double-digit lead. Union had flashes of activity, with senior guard Isis Rodgers converting a layup and Wynn hitting a three, but Georgetown maintained control throughout most of the period. Despite a late shot from the arc by Smith, the Bulldogs couldn't close the gap, and the quarter ended with Union trailing 58-42.
Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 51, Georgetown 90
Union battled in the fourth, hitting a few baskets and getting to the line, but Georgetown controlled the pace, forcing turnovers and scoring steadily. Despite some late attempts from deep, the Bulldogs couldn't close the gap, falling 90-51.
