Union Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Montreat

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. –  Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (0-3) fell to Montreat (3-3) on Wednesday night at Robsion Arena, 81-74.

Freshman forward Aymanni Wynn led the Bulldogs with 31 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double-double. Freshman forward Kylie Noe added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting while senior guard Isis Rodgers also recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. 

How it Happened:

First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 22, Montreat 20

Union Commonwealth stayed competitive early, with Wynn scoring nine points on three 3-pointers and grabbing multiple rebounds. Noe added six points while senior Rayna Duzant contributed five points. Rodgers provided a defensive presence with a block and a steal, helping the Bulldogs finish the first quarter with 22 points.

Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 46, Montreat 40

Union Commonwealth extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring Montreat 24-20. Wynn hit two 3-pointers and added key rebounds, Rodgers contributed six points and three assists, and Sophomore Lindsey Pirkle chipped in six points to help the Bulldogs build a 46-40 advantage at halftime. 

Third Quarter: Union 59, Montreat 57

Union Commonwealth maintained a narrow lead in the third. Wynn led the Bulldogs with five points, including a 3-pointer and two free throws. Noe added four points, while Rodgers contributed six key rebounds to keep Union in front 59-57 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: Montreat 81, Union Commonwealth 74

Union Commonwealth stayed close in the fourth, with Wynn hitting a 3-pointer and several key layups from Pirkle and freshman Aniyah Carter keeping the Bulldogs within striking distance. Rodgers contributed with two defensive rebounds and two points down the stretch, but Union could not overcome the deficit, falling 81-74.
