Union Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime to Tennessee Wesleyan

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. The Union Commonwealth University men's basketball team (9-14, 7-7 AAC) fell in overtime to Tennessee Wesleyan (10-9, 9-6 AAC) on Monday night at Robsion Arena, 88-77.

Senior forward Dallas Rufus led the Bulldogs in scoring with 20 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Jabari Covington followed with 19 points, while Kaleb Hedgepeth rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half: Union Commonwealth 36, Tennessee Wesleyan 32
The opening 10 minutes featured several lead changes, with Union holding a slim 16-14 advantage midway through the half. The Bulldogs then surged ahead, building a 13-point lead at 32-19 with 4:18 remaining. Tennessee Wesleyan responded with a late push, trimming the deficit to four points by halftime, 36-32.

Second Half: Union Commonwealth 70, Tennessee Wesleyan 70
Tennessee Wesleyan opened the second half on a 9-5 run to even the score at 41-41. The game remained tight until Union rattled off a 9-0 run to take a 54-45 lead with 14:07 left in regulation. The Bulldogs' lead was short-lived, as TWU answered with an 11-4 run to pull within two at 58-56 with 10:15 to play. Late baskets gave Tennessee Wesleyan a five-point edge at 70-65, but Union closed regulation strong to tie the game at 70-70 and force overtime.

Overtime: Tennessee Wesleyan 88, Union Commonwealth 77
Tennessee Wesleyan seized control in the extra period, outscoring Union 18-7 to secure the 88-77 victory.
