Union Men’s Basketball Drops Road Matchup Against Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. Union Commonwealth University (3-8, 2-3 AAC) fell behind early and couldn't recover Saturday night at Benjamin F. Brady Arena, dropping a 96-78 road matchup to Truett McConnell (5-5, 3-2 AAC).

Senior forward Dallas Rufus led the Bulldogs with 22 points. Sophomore guard Jabari Covington followed with 18 points, while redshirt junior forward Kaleb Hedgepeth and junior center Ali Sakho added 11 points each. Sakho also led the Bulldogs on the boards with 12 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half: Truett McConnell 58, Union Commonwealth 36
Union opened the game with a Hedgepeth layup, but the Bears answered with a 15-4 run to go ahead 15-6. Truett McConnell pushed the margin to 10 as the Bulldogs struggled to keep pace, trailing 22-12. With 6:31 left, the Bears extended their lead to 40-24 and carried a 58-36 advantage into halftime.

Second Half: Truett McConnell 96, Union Commonwealth 78
Union opened the second half strong, outscoring the Bears 17-8 to cut the deficit to 13. Truett McConnell slowly rebuilt its lead throughout the half, pushing the margin to 21 at 96-75 in the final two minutes. The Bulldogs were unable to mount a comeback and fell 96-78.
