Union tennis 2025 season preview

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University men's and women's tennis teams begin the 2025 regular season on Friday, Jan. 31. Each program enters the season off a successful 2024 campaign.

Each program earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship First Round last season. The women's team advanced to the Second Round with a 4-0 victory over McPherson.

The UCU women's tennis team enters the 2025 season ranked at No. 13 in the country. The Bulldogs return several of last season's top contributors.

"We have most of our players returning and it should be a strong year," Union head coach Stark Davis said about the Union's women's tennis team. "With the experience we have from last year, we should be in good shape to have a strong season."

The Union men's tennis team will enter the 2025 season ranked tied for No. 22 in the country. UCU lost several key pieces from last season's team.

"We lost several of our top six from last year, but we do have several new players coming in to help us," Davis said about the UCU men's tennis team. "It's going to be a bit of a rebuilding year, but we have every reason to think that we have a good opportunity to compete. I think we should be in pretty good shape."

The Bulldogs registered a successful campaign in the fall of 2024 in preparation for the 2025 season. A notable accomplishment for the Bulldogs in the fall occurred when the UCU tennis teams competed in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

In the men's competition, Luke Geduldt won the singles tournament and the team of Geduldt and Victor Bourguignon advanced to the finals of the doubles tourney.

In the women's competition, Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Aspasia Katsuda advanced to the finals of the doubles tourney.
