Bulldogs Fall in Road Match to No. 12 Cumberlands

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (3-11, 2-5 AAC) fell to No. 12 Cumberlands (14-1, 0-0 MSC) on Tuesday afternoon at the O. Wayne Rollins Center, 35-83.

Sophomore guard Ella Coffey led the team with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, adding 2 assists and a steal. Freshman forward Aymanni Wynn contributed 8 points and 3 rebounds, freshman guard Akeeviah Betts hit 2 of 3 from beyond the arc for 6 points, and freshman forward Kylie Noe added 5 points and 4 rebounds.

How It Happened

First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 4, Cumberlands 24

Union trailed early as the Patriots opened the game on an aggressive scoring run. Coffey converted a jumper, while sophomore center Lindsey Pirkle added a putback inside, but Cumberlands closed the period to take a 24–4 lead heading into the second quarter. 

Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 13, Cumberlands 41

Union put together a short scoring stretch behind baskets from Coffey and Betts. Cumberlands continued to control the boards and convert in transition, maintaining a comfortable advantage throughout the period. Union added a final basket from Wynn before the buzzer, heading into halftime trailing 41–13.

Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 26, Cumberlands 64

Cumberlands opened the second half with a strong run, quickly extending their lead. Union added a few points on key baskets from Noe as well as finishes from Wynn and Betts from beyond the arc. The Patriots continued to control the pace, converting in transition and on the boards to build their advantage. The Bulldogs entered the fourth quarter following 64–26.

Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 35, Cumberlands 83

Cumberlands maintained control in the fourth quarter, scoring early and frequently off turnovers and offensive rebounds. Union added points on baskets by Noe and Wynn, but the Patriots steadily extended their lead, outpacing union 83–35.
