BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (3-9, 2-5 AAC) fell to Reinhardt (7-5, 6-1 AAC) Wednesday night at Robsion Arena, 65-52.
Freshman guard Akeeviah Betts led the Bulldogs with 13 points, shooting 67% from the field. Senior guard Isis Rodgers and sophomore center Lindsey Pirkle paced Union on the boards with eight rebounds each. Freshman forward Kylie Noe added 11 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore point guard Emrey Glover finished with 10 points.
How It Happened
First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 4, Reinhardt 10
Reinhardt opened the game with a strong start, jumping out to an early lead. Union broke through late in the quarter with a layup from Noe to get on the board. Sophomore forward Ella Coffey added another layup in the closing seconds, cutting the deficit to 10–4 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 13, Reinhardt 31
Reinhardt pulled away in the second quarter, turning a 10-4 lead into a double-digit advantage with a series of baskets in the paint. Noe's layup and Glover's free throws provided brief answers for Union, and junior guard Rachel Smith hit a late 3-pointer, but the Eagles closed the half with a three and a layup to take a 31-13 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 30, Reinhardt 53
Reinhardt extended its lead with a pair of early threes, but Union answered with a stretch that included several free throws from Betts and a 3-pointer from freshman forward Aymanni Wynn. Buckets from Pirkle and Noe added to the push, though the Eagles held on to take a 53-30 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 52, Reinhardt 65
Union came out strong in the fourth, forcing turnovers and hitting key baskets. Betts added 10 points, including a 3-pointer and several inside shots, while Glover contributed back-to-back baskets. The Bulldogs steadily cut into Reinhardt's lead, narrowing the gap to 65-52 by the final seconds and keeping the game competitive down the stretch.
