How It Happened
First Quarter: Union Commonwealth 11, Bryan 15
Ella Coffey got Union on the board first, knocking down two early layups to set the pace. When Pirkle checked in, she made an immediate impact, adding two layups and a free throw to help Union regain the lead. Senior Guard Isis Rodgers followed with two free throws of her own and pulled down several key defensive rebounds to keep the game tight. The score stayed close and shifted often, but Bryan pulled ahead after capitalizing on two late steals.
Second Quarter: Union Commonwealth 28, Bryan 38
Pirkle helped Union stay within reach early in the second quarter, scoring a layup and knocking down two free throws. A jumper from Wynn, followed by a big three from Sophomore point guard Emrey Glover, gave Union a much-needed boost. A key steal and layup by Rodgers then erased the deficit and tied the game. However, Bryan responded by creating separation again, capitalizing on multiple second-chance opportunities to pull ahead before halftime.
Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 43, Bryan 60
Union stayed competitive in the third quarter, though Bryan quickly turned early turnovers into points. Freshman guard Akeeviah Betts came out strong, scoring two baskets, contributing on the boards, and adding a steal and an assist. Noe and Wynn added key points, while Glover and Rodgers both added a steal and Noe came up with a block on defense. Despite these efforts, Bryan's second-chance points and strong inside scoring kept them in control and allowed them to maintain a comfortable lead through the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Union Commonwealth 60, Bryan 80
Union had strong individual efforts in the fourth. Coffey scored 7 points with 2 rebounds, while Wynn added 5 points and a steal. Pirkle contributed 3 points, a rebound, and an assist, and Noe and Glover made key defensive plays. Despite their efforts, Bryan held the lead to close out the game.
