CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. —Union Commonwealth University's women's basketball team (0-2) fell to No. 3 Campbellsville (1-0) on Tuesday night at Powell Athletic Center, 112-37.
Ella Coffey led Union Commonwealth University with eight points in the Bulldogs' matchup against Campbellsville on Tuesday. Coffey went 3-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Lindsey Pirkle followed closely behind with seven points and six rebounds, going 5-for-6 from the line.
Game Recap
First Half: Campbellsville 56, Union Commonwealth 14
Campbellsville jumped out to an early lead, scoring within the opening minute and controlling the tempo throughout the first quarter. The Bulldogs found the basket late in the period but trailed 30-7 heading into the second.
A three-pointer by Rachel Smith early in the second quarter helped spark Union's offense, but Campbellsville continued to widen the gap. The Tigers carried a commanding 56-14 advantage into halftime.
Second Half: Campbellsville 112, Union Commonwealth 37
Union reached the 20-point mark midway through the third quarter as the Bulldogs battled to gain momentum. Campbellsville maintained its strong offensive pace through the remainder of the game.
Union closed out with its best offensive stretch of the night, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 37 total.
