BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union Commonwealth University's softball team (3-7) dropped both games of a doubleheader against NCAA Division II opponent Thomas More (2-4) on Saturday at Union Field, 12-4 and 13-0.
Game 1: Thomas More 12, Union Commonwealth 4 (6 innings)
The Saints struck first in the opening inning, using a single to drive in a run and take a 1-0 lead.
Thomas More added two runs in the second inning after a double and a single each brought in a run, extending the lead to 3-0.
The Saints continued to push their advantage in the third inning, scoring five runs to make it 8-0.
Union responded in the bottom half of the inning as Lily Allen blasted a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 8-2.
Thomas More added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI single to make it 9-2.
The Bulldogs answered with a run of their own when Taylor Kelly doubled to bring home Victoria Rodriguez, trimming the margin to 9-3.
The Saints added three more runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 12-3.
Union scored one run in the bottom of the sixth when Ryleigh Petrey lifted a sacrifice fly to the outfield, allowing Kenley Vanbibber to score. However, Thomas More secured the 12-4 victory by run rule, ending the game after six innings.

In the first inning, Thomas More scored two runs to take an early lead.
The Saints extended their advantage in the third inning when a single drove in one run and a double brought home two more, making it 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Thomas More capitalized on a sacrifice fly and a Union error to score two runs and push the lead to 7-0.
Thomas More put the game away in the fifth inning, scoring six runs to extend its lead to 13-0. Union was unable to respond, and the game ended due to the run rule.
