Union men’s outdoor track and field places 5th at Cumberlands Early Spring Meet
Williamsburg, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's outdoor track and field team kicked off its season at the Cumberlands Early Spring Meet on Friday, finishing fifth out of 14 teams with a total of 41 points.
Track Events
In the 5000-meter run, Conner Partin and Noah Hale finished back-to-back, with Partin clocking in at 18:15.03 and Hale finishing in 20:42.71.
In the 1500-meter race, Jackson Crume led the Bulldogs with a time of 4:28.17, followed by Zabrey Bortz at 4:32.61 and Torrean Thornton at 4:40.53.
Partin claimed first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 7:09.09. In the 400-meter dash, Valor Pennington posted a time of 53.91, while Tim Freeman finished in 1:02.19.
Teddy Stills placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.02. In the 800-meter run, Bortz and Thornton finished back-to-back, with Bortz running a 2:11.58 and Thornton close behind at 2:12.23.
Preston Frost delivered a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles, securing second place with a time of 57.50.
Field Events
Jay Ateeb secured second place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.98m.
In the javelin throw, Valor Pennington placed fifth with a throw of 37.66m, followed by Tim Freeman, who recorded a mark of 28.32m.
Andon Mashburn registered a throw of 29.07m in the hammer throw. In the high jump, Tyler Sturgil and Santana Smith finished third and fourth, respectively, with both clearing 1.80m.
Mashburn also earned a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.38m, while Jacob Byrd posted a throw of 10.40m.
In discus, Mashburn recorded a mark of 29.00m, with Byrd following at 27.35m. Mashburn also repeated his 29.07m performance in the hammer throw.
