Bulldogs Land Podium Placements at Season Opener
Danville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's track and field team opened its season at the Centre First Chance meet on Saturday.
Sprint Events
In the 60-meter dash, Collin Anderson advanced to the final after running 7.08 in the preliminaries. He placed fifth in the final with a time of 7.07. Xavier Owens finished in 7.29, while Nicholas Blann ran 7.55 and Tyler Sturgil posted 7.57.
Owens paced Union in the 200 meters with a time of 23.53, placing ninth. Anderson finished in 23.84. Kamese Higgins ran 24.16, Isaiah Spears recorded 24.24, and Jayvian Breckenridge finished in 26.69.
In the 400 meters, Connor Messer landed a podium finish, placing third in 53.47. Spears trailed close behind finishing in seventh place with a recorded time of 54.17 while Torrean Thornton posted 59.91.
Distance Events
Joshua Grubb placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:16.09. Thornton competed in the 800 meters, recording a time of 2:30.61.
Jumps and Hurdles
The Bulldogs landed another spot in the top three after Valor Pennington's 3rd place performance resulted in a time of 9.54 during the 60 hurdles. Pennington followed that with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters, while Breckenridge and Sturgil both cleared 1.80 meters.
In the Pole Vault, Tim Freeman reached a height of 2.95m.
Blann marked an impressive 6.51 meters in the long jump, finishing fourth. Sturgil and T.J. Smith rounded out Union with jumps of 5.40 and 5.36 meters.
Blann returned for the triple jump, taking the bronze with a mark of 12.93 meters. Smith followed with a jump of 11.47 meters.
Throws
In shot put, Andon Mashbun and Isaac Doneghy earned fifth and sixth-place finishes with throws of 13.33 and 12.35 meters. Keenan Uhles and Jesus Calderon also competed, recording 9.75 and 8.40 meters.
In the weight throw, Jeremiah Lee led Union with a throw of 13.46 meters, earning 10th place, while William Sykes rounded out the Bulldogs with 12.29 meters.
