Jonathan Shaw, a native of Wirral, England, has been at the helm of the Union Commonwealth University men’s soccer program since 2017. A product of Wirral Grammar School (Class of 2007), Shaw came to the United States to play collegiate soccer at Union College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2011 and a postgraduate degree in Health and Physical Education in 2013.

Before his collegiate playing career, Shaw competed at a high level in England, playing for both the Tranmere Rovers and Chester City Schools of Excellence. At Union, he made his mark as a standout goalkeeper. A two-time All-AAC First Team selection, Shaw is the only player in program history to earn NAIA National Player of the Week honors twice. Following his playing career, Shaw transitioned into coaching, serving as a graduate assistant in 2011 and returning as a full-time assistant coach in 2014. In 2017, he was named head coach of the Bulldogs. Entering the 2025 season, Shaw boasts a 78-40-15 career coaching record, with a .643 winning percentage—the best in program history.
