Bulldogs notch fifth shutout in win over Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's men's soccer team (5-2-1, 4-0-1 AAC) defeated Pikeville(4-4-1, 3-1-1 AAC) 2-0 Wednesday night at Bob Amos Complex.

FIRST HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 2, PIKEVILLE 0

Jordan Blake opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the sixth minute. Just seven minutes later, Zak Hardman doubled the lead with his second goal of the year, assisted by Blake. The Bulldogs finished the first half with five shots.

SECOND HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 2, PIKEVILLE 0

Despite adding three more shots in the second half, Union was unable to extend its lead but held strong defensively to keep Pikeville off the scoreboard. 

The Bulldogs finished with eight shots, including five on frame. Blake and Hardman led the attack with three shots apiece, while Ron-Jay Watson and Laurin Fürmeier each added one. 

Goalkeeper Gabriel Mendoza tallied four saves to secure the shutout—his fifth of the season and the team's fifth overall.
