Gabriel Mendoza Named AAC Defensive Player of the Week

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union Commonwealth University goalkeeper Gabriel Mendoza has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

The graduate student anchored the Bulldogs' defense in their opening matches of the season against Northern Kentucky University and SCAD Savannah. Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in both contests.

Against NKU, he tallied seven saves, followed by a nine-save performance against SCAD. Mendoza also recorded his first shutout of the season, posting a perfect 1.000 save percentage in the Bulldogs' victory over SCAD. His efforts were key in securing the win in the tightly contested matchup.
