Union Falls on the Road in Exhibition Game Against Wofford
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Union Commonwealth University men's basketball team (6-10) dropped an 88-54 decision to Wofford (8-5) in an exhibition game on the road, struggling to keep pace after an early deficit Saturday night.
Junior center Ali Sakho was the lone Bulldog to reach double figures, scoring 14 points while leading the team on the glass with seven rebounds.
As a team, Union shot 40% from the field and 29% from 3-point range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half: Wofford 43, Union Commonwealth 22
Wofford opened the scoring with an early 3-pointer, but Union answered and briefly trailed just 5-4 with 18:37 remaining in the half. From there, the Terriers seized control, steadily building their advantage throughout the period. Wofford extended its lead to as many as 23 points in the closing seconds of the half before Union knocked down the final basket to head into halftime trailing 43-22.
Second Half: Wofford 88, Union Commonwealth 54
Both teams came out of the break playing at a similar pace, but Wofford continued to widen the gap by outscoring Union 18-16 early in the half to push the lead to 61-38 with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Bulldogs were unable to mount a comeback down the stretch, as the Terriers closed the game on a 27-16 run to secure the 88-54 victory.
