Union Baseball Splits Final Day with Milligan, Drops Series

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.– The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (4-14, 1-11 Appalachian Athletic Conference) split the final two games of its conference series against Milligan (18-4, 9-2 AAC) at Anglin Field. The Bulldogs dropped the series 2-1.

Game One: Union Commonwealth 5, Milligan 0

  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Max Charlton delivered a two-RBI single, scoring Nathan McCabe and Isaiah Pintor to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
  • Union extended its advantage in the eighth inning when McCabe secured the win with a three-run home run that scored Pintor and Joaquin Gutierrez, pushing the Bulldogs to a 5-0 victory.

Game Two: Union Commonwealth 1, Milligan 11

  • Milligan jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, using two RBI doubles to take a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Buffaloes extended their lead to 4-0 in the third inning after a run scored on a wild pitch. Milligan broke the game open in the fourth, scoring five runs on a two-run home run, an RBI single and a two-RBI single to take a 9-0 lead.
  • McCabe put the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 9-1.
  • Milligan responded in the bottom of the inning with two more runs to secure the 11-1 win.
