Baseball climbs to 6th in AAC, regular season to wrap Saturday

MARION, N.C. - In a year stuffed with cancelations and postponements, the final weekend of the regular season is following a familiar script for the Union baseball team.

A scheduled three-game series at Montreat will now be reduced to a doubleheader, which is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader Thursday and a single game Saturday, but rain forced the postponement of Thursday's action before it even started.

It has yet to be decided if the games will be played at Montreat College or at the Big League Camp facility in Marion, N.C. If played at Montreat, there will be a live stream available. If at Big League Camp, there will be no stream.

The Bulldogs (13-12) enter the weekend a half game behind the Cavaliers (14-12) for fifth place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Despite not playing, Union got a boost in the standings, and is now alone in sixth place after St. Andrews (13-14), fell 7-3 and 2-1 in a doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan Thursday.

The Bulldogs also gained a half game on Point (13-14) after the Skyhaws dropped a 7-6 final against Columbia International.

The top six seeds automatically advance into the double-elimination round of next week's AAC Tournament, while seeds 7-10 have to earn their ways in through a single-elimination play-in.
