LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Union College men's soccer team returned from a 12-day layoff and suffered a 3-1 loss at Covenant (Ga.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference action Saturday.

Union's lone score came in the 66th minute from senior Marc Pierre (Haiti) on an unassisted goal from the corner of the 18-yard box.

A penalty kick goal from Julian Allgeier put Covenant in front during the sixth minute. He later assisted David Pifer on his score in the 61st minute of the match. Allgeier answered Union's score with his second goal of the match with 13 minutes left.

Jonathan Shaw (Merseyside, England) recorded five saves in Union's goal.

"We came out flat today," Union head coach Tyler Brock said after the match. "Despite the slow start, we were able to play better in the second half, but we could not overcome the deficit."

After the match, Union moved to 8-3-2 overall 2-2 in conference play while Covenant went to 3-2 in the AAC and with an overall record of 5-5-2.

Union will host Bryan (Tenn.) College for a conference contest Wednesday on Burch/Nau Field. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start as Bryan sets atop the AAC standings at 4-0 in the conference.

Bulldog Notes

  • Union has been outscored by Covenant 16-3 in the last four regular-season meetings, all losses for the Bulldogs.
  • Pierre's goal was his third of the season.
  • Shaw boosted his save total to 37 for the 2008 season.
