BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College senior linebacker Marekus Smith garnered Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week following Saturday's 35-28  victory, the league announced Monday.

The 16th-ranked ranked Bulldogs improved to 4-0 overall for the first time in program history with the seven-point win over No. 18 Georgetown (Ky.) College.

Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) recorded eight total tackles, six of which were solos, and a sack that went for a loss of 11 yards. The 5-foot-10, 196-pounder also recorded an interception, which set up the game-winning touchdown.

On the season, Smith is second on the team in tackles with 25 total stops with 4.0 going for a loss of 17 yards. In addition, he has one sack, one interception, five pass breakups and a blocked kick.

In four weeks of the conference awards, Union has had players receive honors during three of the weeks with Smith being the fifth Bulldog to be recognized.

The Bulldogs (4-0 overall, 1-0 MSC East) travel to West Virginia Tech Saturday for another MSC East battle. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
