BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Union College volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory on the road Friday at Bluefield (Va.) College.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-16 before clinching the match with a 25-17 third-set win.

After the match, Union improved to 6-4 overall and evened the conference record at 2-2. Bluefield went to 2-1 in conference play and 3-7 overall.

Freshman Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) recorded a season-best 10 kills which was also a team-high in the contest. Brooke Vinovich (Somerset, Ky.) added nine kills. Marlee Cooper (Bloomington, Ill.) and Stephanie Pateman (Weyburn, Canada) had eight kills apiece.

Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) was credited with 29 assists and 11 digs. Christina Prindle (Florence, Ky.) recorded 13 digs.

Union will turn around and play at UVa-Wise Saturday. The AAC match is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • This was the first road match for Union in 2008. The Lady Bulldogs have a 3-1 record on neutral courts this season.
  • Cooper's eight kills marked a season best for the senior.
  • Union took both meetings against Bluefield last year with scores of 3-1 in each match.
