BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's soccer team fought and captured a 1-0 victory Tuesday against Warren Wilson (N.C.) College at Burch/Nau Field.

A Mbizo Mzamane (Johannesburg, South Africa) penalty kick broke the scoreless tie in the 71st minute.

After the contest, Union improved to 3-1-2 while Warren Wilson went to 2-2.

Jonathan Shaw (Merseyside, England) saved both shots attempted for the shutout.

The Bulldogs were able to attempt a total of 15 shots and 12 were on goal. On the other side, Warren Wilson took three shots and two were on goal.

Union starts the Appalachian Athletic Conference season on Saturday at Tennessee Wesleyan College Saturday. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.

Bulldog Notes

  • Union used a similar 1-0 score for a win last year at Warren Wilson.
  • The last 1-0 victory for Union came in 2007 against Mountain State (W.Va.) University.
  • This is the second shutout of the season for Union.
