BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - It took the Union College women's soccer team a minute to score the first goal of Saturday's home opener against Tennessee Temple University and the Lady Bulldogs built on that for a 9-0 victory.

Union improved to 2-0 on the year while Tennessee Temple falls to 1-3.

Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) scored the first of her three goals to start the Union offense in the first minute. She also was credited with three assists during the contest.

Freshman Marcela Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) also got in the scoring frenzy with a hat trick of her own. All three of her goals were in the second half and she also recorded an assist.

Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) had a two-goal effort and Heather Jaques (Manitoba, Canada) added a goal.

The trio of Karla Goncavles (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Melanie Hester (London, Ky.) and Katarina Sprunk (Port Charlotte, Fla.) were all credited with an assist apiece.

Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) played the opening half in goal for Union before giving way to the bench. The lone Tennessee Temple shot attempted missed the goal. In comparison, Union took 34 shots and 21 were on goal.

Union will make a trip to play Mountain State (W.Va.) University on Tuesday. The contest is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
