ANDERSON, S.C. - Autumn Combs put her name into the Union College record book with four blocks against Claflin (S.C.) College as part of the Anderson (S.C.) University Invitational Saturday. Her four blocks gives her 467 blocks for her career to break the record.

Combs, a junior and Florence, Ky. native, has a total of 17 blocks so far through the season. The Union career blocks record was held by Jessica Metzcar at 464. She also had 10 kills against Claflin with five kills and three blocks versus Benedict.

The day started for Union against Benedict (S.C.) College and Union won with set scores of 25-8, 25-21 and 25-15. In the Claflin contest, Union swept the match with scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14. The Lady Bulldogs' record improved to 3-1 and all three victories have been 3-0 sweeps.

Against Benedict, Brooke Vinovich (Somerset, Ky.) led the Lady Bulldogs' offense with nine kills. Freshman Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) also registered five kills with four blocks.

Christina Prindle (Florence, Ky.) recorded 24 assists. Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) had a team-best 14 digs and Marlee Cooper (Bloomington, Ill.) added 10 more digs.

In the meeting with Claflin, Prindle was credited with 28 assists and Vinovich had eight kills. Moreland served five aces and added seven digs while Cooper also accounted for seven digs.

Union plays the home opener on Tuesday when University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) visits. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • Combs joins Cooper as active members of the Lady Bulldog team with career records. Cooper owns the career kills record.
  • The 3-1 start is the best by any Union team since 2003 which was an 11-1 start.
