BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Boone County High standout Marcela Salum will be a part of the Union College women's soccer team starting this season.

Salum scored a team-best 12 goals during her senior campaign from her forward position. Seven of the goals were headers. In 2006, she scored six goals and added nine assists after a team-best five assists performance as a sophomore.

She was a first-team All-Northern Kentucky selection this past season and added a second-team spot in her junior year. Salum added honorable mention all-state the last two seasons.

Boone County won the 17th District crown in 2007 under the direction of head coach Mike Hughes.

The newest Lady Bulldog is a native of Guatemala City, Guatemala and moved to Florence for her sophomore year.

Union finished 2007 with a 7-8-2 overall record after a loss in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Lady Bulldogs posted a 3-3-1 conference record for a fifth-place finish in the AAC.
