BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Chelsea Kirschman of Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Fla. has signed to play her collegiate volleyball at Union College. The future Lady Bulldog will graduate from Nease in December and enroll at Union in January for the 2009 season.

Kirschman is a 5-foot-10, middle blocker and she is a rising senior at Nease for head coach C.J. Sherman. In her junior year, she led the team in blocks with 50. Kirschman also recorded 146 kills and served 17 aces. Nease appeared in the last two Florida High School Athletic Association 4A Final Fours and ended 2007 with a 25-6 record.

She also was named to the St. Augustine Record All-Area Team as a junior after being a honorable mention as a sophomore.

Kirschman is also a two-year member of the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Academy 17 National Team. She led the squad in blocks and aces while she ranked third in the kills category.

"Chelsea is a solid and smart player," Union head coach Whitney Erb commented. "She has played on competitive club and high school teams that will have helped her to be ready to come in the spring and contribute to our team."

Union enters the 2008 season looking to defend the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship. The Lady Bulldogs compiled a 34-15 record with a 16-2 conference mark. The 2008 slate opens for Union at the Anderson University Tournament in Anderson, S.C. Action starts on Friday, August 29. The home schedule starts with a contest against University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Tuesday, September 2.
