BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Amelia Cantrell of Georgetown, Ky., recently committed to play for Union College next fall, first-year head coach Whitney Erb announced.

"Amelia is the caliber of student-athletes we are looking for at Union," Erb said. "She is a great student, strong volleyball player and teammate, and a young lady with remarkable character."

Cantrell, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, played for Scott County High where she helped the Lady Cardinals to a 13-16 overall record in 2007. Despite the losing mark, Scott County advanced to the District 30 championship match and to the 8th Region Tournament. Scott County won the District 30 Tournament in 2006, Cantrell's junior season.

The Lady Bulldogs set a school record with 34 wins en route to the program's first Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season title this past season. Union finished the 2007 campaign with an overall record of 34-15 and 16-2 in conference play.
