MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The Union College cheerleading team made their first trip to the Cheer Ltd Open College Nationals a memorable one with a championship and third-runner up finish in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Union captured the crown in the All-Girl College Stunt group, over King (Tenn.) College. The quartet featured juniors Tara Tye (Williamsburg, Ky.) and Rebecca Mills (Barbourville, Ky.) along with sophomore Sasha Davisson (Barbourville, Ky.) and freshman Rachel Fore (Corbin, Ky.)

To go along with the stunt group, Union added a third-runner up finish in the small coed collegiate division. The Top-2 groups were from NCAA Division I programs. Charleston Southern (S.C.) University was the champion while Tennessee Tech University was first-runner up. Between Union and Tennessee Tech was Indiana Tech University while Iowa Central Community College and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke were fifth and sixth, respectively.

The trip to nationals was the first for the Union program under the direction of first-year head coach Heather Wilson.
