KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Second-seeded Reinhardt (Ga.) blew open a tie ballgame with seven runs in the top of the ninth, as the Eagles got past the third-seeded Union College baseball team, 12-9, in an elimination game at the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Hunter Wright Stadium.

With the loss, Union ends their 2014 season with a 34-20 overall mark.

In the first, Reinhardt was quick to attack, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first to go up 2-0. Union countered in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own, as Corey Corum (FR/Manchester, Ky.) scored from third base on a John Wilson (JR/Manchester, Ky.) RBI sacrifice fly, making the game 2-1 after an inning.

The score remained that way into the fourth, where the Eagles scored two more runs to go up 4-1. After struggling into the sixth inning against against RU starting pitcher Bobby Gazzola, the Bulldogs struck back, scoring two runs in the frame to cut the RU lead down to 4-3. LaVance Anderson (SR/Bowling Green, Ky.) had an RBI double in the frame, while Zach Dillman (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) posted an RBI single.

In the eighth, Reinhardt increased their lead to two with a run to go up 5-3 entering the bottom of the frame. There, the Bulldogs tied it up with a pair of runs, as Justin Elder (JR/Seven Mile, Ohio) and J.D. Burrell (JR/Amanda, Ohio) had RBI singles. Union, however, stranded the bases loaded in the frame, as Reinhardt forced an inning ending double play.

This set the stage for the Eagles' seven-run ninth inning to go up 12-5, essentially putting the game out of Union's reach. The Bulldogs, however, did not go away quietly, as Anderson and Elder smashed back-to-back two-RBI doubles in the bottom of the ninth.

But, the threat ended there, as Reinhardt was able to get the final two outs to end the ballgame, and Union's season in the process.

Overall, Elder and Anderson had huge days at the plate in the loss. Elder went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Anderson was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Jared Tomany (SR/Bryant, Wis.) was perfect 3-for-3 on the day with two runs scored, and Nelson Price (JR/Burkesville, Ky.) was 2-for-5.

On the mound, Tomany (3-2) took the loss. Reinhardt was led in the win by catcher Chris Smith, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI on the day at the dish.
