KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Union finds itself in the middle of the pack in sixth place at the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Golf Tournament at the Cattails Golf Course in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Bulldogs fired an opening round score of 342, putting them three strokes back of fifth-place Tennessee Wesleyan. St. Andrews (N.C.) leads the pack with a team score of 319 as the Lady Knights' top four golfs shot 81 or lower on the par-72 course.
Milligan (Tenn.) is second at 323, while Reinhardt (Ga.) and SCAD Atlanta (Ga.) are third and fourth with scores of 331 and 334, respectively.
In all, there are 10 teams competing.
Sydney Smith led the Bulldogs with an 83, which is good enough to be tied for 15th overall. Katie Nusz and Danielle Judd are tied for 17th at 85. Brittany Zins rounds out Union's scoring with an 89 for 27th place.
Ann Sullivan of Milligan leads the field with a five-over 77.
The second and final round will be held Tuesday.
