WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's track & field teams took part in the their final event before the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, participating in the 2014 Cumberlands (Ky.) Invitational.

For the men's team, Domonique Jefferson (JR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) registered high finishes in two events on the track, placing ninth in the 100-meter dash (11.27) and 10th in the 200-meter dash (22.96).

In the field, Andrew Johnston (SR/Benton, Ky.) was fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12 feet, six inches, while Matt Francis (JR/Salyersville, Ky.) was 11th in the shot put with a 41 foot, three inch effort. Rounding out the top performances for the men's team was William White (SR/Manchester, Ky.), who was 12th in both the discus (115 foot, 11 inch effort) and hammer throw (123 feet, eight inch toss).

On the women's side, Jessica Shepherd (SO/Somerset, Ky.) was seventh in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:01.59, while Becky Allen (FR/Manchester, Ky.) was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:19.38. In field events, Abby Tigue (JR/Pineville, Ky.) was 11th in the discus (92 feet, 10.25 inch toss), while Alex Prokopchak (FR/Williamstown, Ky.) was 12th in the triple jump (31 foot, one inch effort).

The Union men's and women's track & field teams return to action on Wednesday, kicking off the 2014 AAC Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. The event wraps up on Thursday.
