ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - The Union women's tennis team scored its first win of the year with a 9-0 win at St. Catharine (Ky.), while the men's team fell 8-1 to the Patriots on Monday.

With the win, the Union women improve to 1-4 overall. The men are now 0-5.

Women's Match - Union 9, St. Catharine 0

Union had a relatively easy time dispatching St. Catharine since the Patriots are short-handed. The Bulldogs won two of the three doubles matches and two of the singles matches by default, giving Union four of its nine points.

In the one doubles match that was played, Summer Manning and Richi Shackleford teamed up for an 8-0 decision.

Manning and Shackleford followed up that performance by both winning their single matches by the identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Glenna Young scored a 6-1, 6-1 decision in her match, and Megan Harris netted a 6-1, 6-3 win.

St. Catharine is 0-3 on the season.

Men's Match - St. Catharine 8, Union 1

Despite the lopsided outcome, the Bulldogs put a valiant fight but came up short in a few matches. 

In doubles, Louis Molina and Eric Mikhlin nearly defeated Ethan Rowton and Andre Jacomini yet fell 9-7. Union's lone point did come in doubles play as Mic Moore and Joshua Souane scored an 8-3 win.

Molina nearly won his singles match, forcing a third-set tiebreak. However, Rowton pulled out the 2-6, 6-4 1-0 (6) decision. Moore put up a strong fought in his match, although losing 6-1, 6-4. Jamie McLlellan gave all he had in a 6-2, 6-3 loss.

St. Catharine is now 3-2 overall.

The Union squads return to Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when they visit Milligan (Tenn.). Match is set for 2 p.m.
