BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College women's swimming head coach Rafael Forti has announced that Lara Kaufmann has signed her National Letter of Intent, and plans to join the Bulldog program in time for the Fall 2014 semester.

Kaufmann, a native of Schwerte, Germany, plans to swim backstroke and distance freestyle events for the Bulldogs.

"I am glad Lara has decided to continue her studies and swimming careers at Union College," said Forti. "She possesses a lot of experience in distance freestyle events and it will surely help her transition into the collegiate level. She will add much needed depth to our women's distance group and I am sure she will provide a positive impact right away."

In her native country, Kaufmann prepped at Ruhrtal-Gymnasium Schwerte, while clubbing with SG Eintracht Ergste. She took part in the Open Water National in 2013, the Open Water Junior Nationals in both 2011 and 2012, and the Nordrein-Westfalen Sectional Championships in 2013.

The daughter of Anja Kiefer-Kaufmann and Holger Kaufmann, Lara plans to major in Computer Information Technology at Union.
