OWENSBORO, Ky. - An RBI triple by Tiffanie Moore (FR, Maryville, Tenn.) in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the difference, as the Union College softball team salvaged a spilt in a doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, winning game two, 2-1. The Bulldogs dropped the first game, 2-0.

With the results, Union went to 14-12 overall on the year, while KWC went to 9-11.

Game Two

After suffering a tough defeat in game one, Union looked to snap a five-game losing skid in the second game of the doubleheader, and got off to a good start in the top of the first. In the frame, Natalie Morrow (JR, Carson City, Nev.) knocked home Moore on an RBI double with two outs, giving the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, KWC answered, knotting the game up at 1-1. But, that was all the Panthers could muster in the game off starter Katie Perkins (SR, Owensboro, Ky. ), who shutdown the KWC line-up the rest of the way.

Union finally took the lead in the top of the sixth. After an out, Amanda Cupp (SO, Latonia, Ky. ) ignited the rally with a double, then was knocked home in the next at-bat on Moore's triple. After allowing a lead-off double in the bottom of the frame, Perkins retired six straight KWC batters to end it, lifting the Bulldogs to a one-run victory.

Overall, seven different players in the Union line-up recorded a hit, only striking out twice. In the circle, Perkins (3-1) earned the complete game victory in her hometown of Owensboro, allowing just five hits, surrendering one walk, while striking out five.

Game One

In the first game, KWC pitcher Josalyn Ress shut down the Union line-up, as the Panthers hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take a two-run win. Overall, Union only mustered three hits off of Ress in the loss.

Starter Rachel Cogdill (SR, Knoxville, Tenn.) (5-6) was the hard luck loser for Union in the circle, allowing two runs on just four hits.
