BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union baseball team recorded a pair of one-run wins to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Purdue Calumet (Ind.) on Tuesday, winning 6-5 in nine innings and 2-1.

With the wins, Union improves to 17-6 overall. Purdue Calumet is now 1-5 on the year.

In the first game, the Bulldogs needed a couple extra innings to collect the 6-5 decision. Down 3-1, Union put together a four-run sixth to take a 5-3 advantage. With one out, Miguel MendezNelson Price and Ryan Horvath line back-to-back-to-back singles. Following a flyout to right for the second out, Tyler Young and Jared Tomany delivered two more singles to complete the rally.

The lead was short-lived as Purdue Calumet pushed two runs across in the top of the seventh, evening the score at 5-5. After a scoreless eighth, Union broke the deadlock when LaVance Anderson singled in Vance Sullivan for the game-winning run.

In the nightcap, Anderson scored in the first to give Union the early advantage. Yet, Purdue Calumet scored the equalizer in the second.

It remained 1-1 until the fourth when the Bulldogs took advantage of an error to push the go-ahead run across. The Union staff kept the Purdue Calumet bats at bay, allowing only two hits and one walk during the final five innings to secure the 2-1 victory.

Union and Purdue Calumet will play a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
