BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday afternoon to Georgetown (Ky.), losing game one of a doubleheader, 2-0, while falling in game two, 8-4.

With the losses, the Bulldogs fell to 2-2 overall on the year, while Georgetown improved to 2-0 with the DH sweep.

Game One

In the first game, the Bulldogs seemed to never catch the break they needed on the offensive end, as a pair of runs in each of the first two innings was all Georgetown needed to take the game.

Georgetown took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, and in the bottom half of the inning, Union appeared poised to tie it up with runners on second and third and one out. However, the Bulldogs lined out into an inning ending double play, extinguishing the threat.

The Tigers went up two with another run in the top of the second, and after a quiet inning, the Bulldogs looked to crack the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, putting runners once again on second and third with one out. Unfortunately, Union hit into another inning ending double play, ending what turned out to be one the last scoring opportunities of the game for the Bulldogs.

From there, the Georgetown pitching staff kept the Bulldogs off the board and after retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers earned a two-run victory.

Overall, Ashley Wojnowski led the Bulldogs at the dish in the first game, going 2-for-4, while Chandler Overton went 2-for-3 in the contest. In the circle, Rachel Cogdill (1-1) was the hard luck loser for Union, pitching a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits, while striking out eight Tiger batters.

Game Two

Poised to make up for the mistakes of game one, the Bulldogs came out on fire in game two, opening a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Union opened up a game that was tied at 1-1 entering the second with three runs (all scored with two outs) in the bottom of the inning. Amanda Cupp had an RBI double in the frame, while Jamie Cyrus and Erin Cooper each had RBI singles.

But, this would be the final time the Bulldogs would score in the contest, as Georgetown cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning on a two-run home run off starter Katie Perkins.

In the sixth, the Tigers took control, scoring three runs to go up 6-4. After adding two more runs in the top of the seventh off another two-run homer, the four run deficit was too much for the Bulldogs to come back from in the bottom half of the inning, as the Tigers rolled to the DH sweep.

Overall in game two, Wojnowski had another multiple-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Danielle Borum also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Cyrus rounded out the top hitters in the game for Union, going 2-for-3 with an RBI

In the circle, Union's Megan Baldwin (1-1) took the loss, giving up five runs in four innings of work. For Georgetown, reliever Jessica Claxton (1-0) picked up the win, tossing five innings of shutout softball, allowing just two hits.
