BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - After having back-to-back meets canceled the last two weeks, the Union College men's and women's swimming teams came back in a strong way on Saturday, sweeping past Milligan (Tenn.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) in a double-dual meet at Stivers Aquatic Center.

Overall, the Union men's team bested Milligan, 146-41 and St. Catharine, 160-0, while the women's team beat Milligan, 131-57 and St. Catharine, 146-20. Individually, the Bulldogs hit 12 NAIA National Championship Qualifying "A" Cuts, as well as six "B" cuts.

"It was nice to finally be able to compete this semester," said head coach Rafael Forti. "We have two more meets before nationals and I am sure we will be able to obtain the last few qualifying times we are still looking for. This is a very exciting portion of the season."

Of note on the day, several National Qualifying cuts were notched by the Bulldogs for the first time on the season.

Leading the way were Kasey McCormick, who recorded an "A" cuts in the 50-free after hitting the wall in 25.79. For the men, Diego Rios - competing in his first event as a Bulldog after joining the team before the start of the Spring semester - had two "A" cuts on the day. Rios punched a ticket to the NAIA National Championships in the 50-free (21.85) and in the 200-free after a fast swim in the first leg of the 200-free "B" Relay. Rios also posted a "B" cut in the 100-free (48.81).

Elsewhere, Jule Stein, also competing in her first meet at Union, posted "B" cuts in both the 400-IM (5:07.01) and 200-breast (2:37.05).

The Union men's and women's swimming teams return to action on Feb. 9, hosting King (Tenn.) and Bethel (Tenn.) in the programs annual Senior Day meet. Things get underway at the Stivers Aquatic Center at 2 p.m.
