BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College men's swimming coach Rafael Forti has announced that Torger Torgersen has signed his National Letter of Intent and plans to join the Bulldog program for the 2014-15 season. Torgersen is the first signee for the men's swimming program in the 2014-15 class.

"I am happy to have a student-athlete of Torger's caliber joining our program for next season," said Forti. "He will bring much needed depth on events we are in need for next year and I know he will be able to make us stronger right away."

"I'm very excited about joining the Union College swim team and hope to contribute positively to the team," Torgersen added. "The whole campus was very welcoming and I felt at home there."

Torgersen plans to swim breaststroke and butterfly when he joins the program next fall. A East Robertson High School product, Torgersen competed in two events at the 2013 Tennessee High School State Championship (200-IM and 500-freestyle) and was a finalist in two events (200-IM and 100-Breast) at the 2013 Middle Tennessee High School Regional Championship.

A member of the Excel Aquatics Swim Club, Torgersen competed at the 2013 Long Course Southeastern Championship in three events (100 and 200-breast, 200-fly), representing his club team in the process.

Torgersen is also a member of the National Honors Society, posting a 4.0 grade point average at East Robertson. The son of Ole and Celeste Torgersen, Torger plans to major in History when he enrolls at Union College next fall.

The Union College men's and women's swimming teams are idle for Holiday Break until Jan. 18, when they host Emory and Henry in a dual meet at the Stivers Center. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
