BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A late run pushed visiting Pikeville (Ky.) past Union as the Bulldogs' three-game win streak ended thanks to an 80-78 decision on Saturday.
With the loss, Union falls to 6-3, while Pikeville improves to 2-4 overall.
Down 74-68 with 3:58 to play, the Lady Bears reeled off nine straight points to take a 75-74 lead off a Kandace Porter bucket with 2:34 remaining. Free throws made by Haley Perkins and Amber Taylor split up by two from Courtney Haney had Union up 78-77 with 14 seconds left. Brogan Conley then drained a 3-pointer with seven seconds on the clock, putting Pikeville ahead 80-78.
After calling a timeout, Union attempted a last-second 3-pointer, but the shot rimmed out as Pikeville held on for the two-point win.
Perkins led all scorers with 22 points, while Taylor followed with 18 points and eight rebounds. Lydia Nash chipped in 16 points.
For Pikeville, Callisha Johnson led the way with 13 points, while Porter and Patrice Tonge each had 12 points for the Lady Bears. Kelah Eldridge contributed 10 points.
The Lady Bears got a big boost from their bench, which contributed 39 points. Union received only nine points from its bench.
Union returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when it plays host to Tennessee Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
