WILMORE, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's swimming teams earned a split on the day against Asbury in a dual meet on Saturday. The Bulldog women's team picked up a 136-122 win over the host Eagles, while the men's team fell in a tight meet, 157-101.

Individually, the teams hit 24 NAIA National Qualifying Cuts in the meet (13 "A" Cuts and 11 "B" Cuts) and won 16 of the 28 events contested on the day.

"It was another good competitive meet," said head coach Rafael Forti. "I have to give a lot of credit to our women, they really impressed me today. Overall, we were able to observe several swimmers in events that are not traditionally their main one, and I liked of how these specific events went.

"After having swum most of the events of the official program in our first two meets, I feel very confident that we have what it takes for another successful season."

On the women's side, the Bulldogs dominated the meet, winning 10 of the 14 events contested on the afternoon. Individually, Callie Harrigan led the way, posting two "A" cuts on the day with top times in the 50-free (25.66) and 200-back (2:14.96)

Elsewhere, Eliska Melicharova posted an "A" cut in the 100-back at 1:01.58, winning the event in the process. Anna Kotliarova had an "A" cut in the 200-free, hitting the wall in  2:02.63 and a "B" cut in the 100-fly, finishing in 1:03.53, while Tanya Eustrom posted a "B" cut of her own in the 100-free (57.87).

The Bulldog women were also successful in both relay events on the day, winning the 200-medley relay (1:55.01) and hitting an "A" cut in the 800-free relay (8:26.25). In the event, Kellianne Holck recorded a "B" cut with her time leading off the Bulldogs.

On the men's side, Jose Jesus Morales etched his name into the Union record books with a time 2:01.08 in the 200-fly, breaking the school record in that event. Morales' time in that event was an "A" cut, while he also recorded a "B" cut in the 200-IM (2:01.04), as well.

Three other "B" cuts were recorded on the day by Lucas Lucena in the 100-back (55.85), Vinicius Rossi in the 100-breast (1:01.56), and Dalton Baxter in the 500-free (5:00.09). In relays, the Bulldogs recorded an "A" cut in the 800-free, hitting the wall in 7:36.22.

The Union College swimming teams return to action on Saturday, traveling to Campbelllsville (Ky.) to take on the host Tigers and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Action gets underway at 11 a.m.
