BRISTOL, Va. - The Union volleyball team picked up its fifth win in a row on Tuesday with a 3-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Virginia Intermont.
The Bulldogs improved to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in conference play with the 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20 decision.
Virginia Intermont falls to 9-14 overall and 6-9 in the AAC.
Paige Moore paced Union with 17 kills with Caity Merritt following with 10 and Karina Ramos notching nine. Heather Fields posted 28 assists, and Ana Calaza recorded 27 digs. Kassie Bruner and Summer Manning each helped out with 10 digs.
For Virginia Intermont, Ashleigh Manke led the way with 14 kills.
By the Numbers
- With her 10 kills, Merritt now has 304 kills on the year, giving Union two players with over 300 kills with Moore having 317. The duo also had 300-plus last season.
- Union is 7-0 in four-set matches this season. The team is 9-3 in three-set matches and 3-3 in five-set matches.
- The Bulldogs are 8-1 in road games this season.
- Fields eclipsed the 700-assist mark as she now has 720 now.
Union continues on the road as it will face Bryan (Tenn.) on Saturday. The Lady Lions are currently 27-1 overall and 16-0 in conference play. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
