COLUMBIA, S.C. - Columbia (S.C.) leaped out to a 3-0 lead, and held off late comeback bid by the Union College women's soccer team to take a 3-2 decision over the Lady Bulldogs in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

With the loss, Union fell to 1-5-0 overall, 1-2 in the AAC, while Columbia improved to 6-3-0, 1-3 in the AAC with the victory.

For the majority of play, Columbia controlled the match. In the first half, the Fighting  Koalas jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring goals in the 12th and 14th minutes. To start the second half, Columbia increased the lead to 3-0 with a score in the 58th minute, and appeared to have the match in hand.

However, Union roared back in the final 15 minutes. First in the 76th minute, Helen Weber scored off an Aline Dalmedico pass to make the score, 3-1. The goal for the junior was her second of the year, while Dalmedico notched her first assist of the year on the play. With under four minutes left in the match, Union cut the Columbia lead to a goal after Dalmedico scored, unassisted. The goal was the eighth of the season for the junior.

But, Columbia was able to hang on to the one score lead over the final three minutes of regulation, fighting off a comeback bid by the Lady Bulldogs to take the AAC contest.

Overall, Columbia outshot Union by a wide 13-4 margin, and held a 10-5 edge on corner kicks.
