BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Freshman Andre Scott's goal late in the first half proved to be the difference, as the Union College men's soccer team knocked off Reinhardt (Ga.), 2-1, on Saturday at Burch/Nau Field in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

With the win, Union improved their record on the year to 3-2-1, 1-1 in the AAC, while Reinhardt fell to 1-3, 0-2 in the AAC with the loss.

"We didn't play our best, but we got the job done," said head coach Tyler Brock. "We've had a problem finishing off games this season, and we did that today. Our guys are gaining more experience each time we go out there, and we're getting better. Hopefully we can keep it going at Bryan on Wednesday.

"I have to give credit to Thales Galan who played a great game for us and kept many plays alive. Also, Scott was terrific all day, his hard work in practice really paid off on his goal."

After a missed opportunity early in the first half, the Bulldogs were the first to score in the 21st minute. Jonathan Watson had the goal from a corner kick from Callum Tychowski who earned the assist. For Watson, it was his fourth goal of the season, while Tychowski collected his second assist of the year on the play.

Thirteen minutes later, the eventual game winner for Union came from Scott on an assist for Alex Smith in the 34th minute. For Scott, the score was the first of his Union career, while Smith collected his first career assist on the play.

Reinhardt's ended the first half with a score to cut the Union lead to two goals heading into the half. In the second period, the Bulldogs used a strong defensive effort to hold on to the one goal lead, collecting their first AAC win of the year in the process.

Goalkeeper C.J. Hopkins earned the win in net, racking up six saves, four coming in the second half to preserve the lead. Overall, Union out-shot Reinhardt 13-11 in the contest, holding a 3-1 edge on corner kicks in the match.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Bryan (Tenn.) for a big AAC road match. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
